overheard yesterday

"Mom, I just don't understand this game!" Gracie said while playing on her DS.

"That's because you set it to Spanish, Gracie."

"Well, THAT explains it."

"Mom! Mom! My skirt matches my new booster seat! I'm so stylish! Aren't I soooo stylish, Mom?"

******

"Oh, my knees! I'm so old!" says my 5-year-old.

And, finally, you know they're the kid of a  mom blogger when they say:

"Mom, I'm so excited for this playdate. I brought little surprises to hand out to eveyone!"

Even our playdates have swag now, apparently.

this conversation actually happened at 2am

"Mama? Mama? Mama! MAMA! MAMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!"

(stumbling into the room, half asleep) "What, Colin?"

"I done."

"Done what?"

"I done sleep."

That's what you think, Buster.

add this to the list of things "i never thought i'd say"

me: "Are those BOOGERS on the wall?"

Colin: (proudly) "ME boogie!"

the song started out so sweet.....

"He's got the birds and the flowers... in His hands,

He's got the mommies and the daddies... in His hands,

He's got the strangers and the weirdos... in His hands,

He's got the whole world in his hands!"

so they've noticed the crazy...

"Ellie, let me put a note in your folder for your teacher - you have Daisy's today after school."

"Are you sure Mom? Maybe you should check your calendar. You seem to get your days mixed up a lot."

on earrings and other things heard around my house

"Mom, when can I get my ears pierced?"
"You want to get your ears pierced? Since when?"
"I want to wear pretty earrings."
"Well, when you get your ears pierced they use something like a needle to make a hole in your ear."
"Oh."

silence.

"Nevermind."

And that's the end of that conversation.

Husband: "The best thing about going to Disney is that you're so crazy that won't let me plan anything. All I have to do is show up."

"Mom, you make better pancakes than McDonalds. And its HARD to make better food than McDonalds."

SIGH

"Mom, when I grow up, I'm going to buy shoes."

*****

"Not only do I have PINK EYE, but I'm out of Splenda! UGH! Could this day get any worse?"
"Way to keep it in perspective, Mel."

And that's why I love my friends.

"Boys are so gross."
"But they're cute! Colin is cute! Daddy is cute and he's a boy."
"Daddy is NOT cute."
"He's not?"
"No. He's a handsome, dansome prince."

another reason why we don't do santa

"Mom, how can Santa see us all the time and know if we're bad or good or know if we are sleeping? I thought only God could do that?"

I never even thought about it that way. How do you even answer that?

My kids amaze me.

a sign my kids might be too plugged in

"Mom, I'm going to ask you if I can play computer during Colin's nap and if you say no, then I'm going to ask you if I can play the DS and if you say no, then I'll ask you if I can watch a movie and if you say no, then I'll go play something without a screen."

Apparently, playing with "something without a screen" is a novelty. I think it may be time to reintroduce my kids to some good, old fashioned board games.

boy vocabulary lesson

Colin probably has - at best - a 15 word vocabulary. Words include:
"Mama" = Mommy
"Dada" = Daddy
"Cee-Cee" = Gracie
"Eee-Eee" = Ellie
"Uh-huh" = yes
"La-la" = Elmo/Sesame Street
"Ball" = ball
"Boo" = book
"Doww" = down
"Woof-woof" = dog
"Meeeeew" = cat

His newest word: "Bum." As in butt. Boy knows 15 words and one is butt.

And he laughs when he says it. Boys.

(He does say "Jee-Jee" which means Jesus, so do you think that cancels out bum?)

faith like a child

Tonight before dinner, we jokingly asked Colin if he wanted to pray for us.

Colin immediately grinned, folded his hands, bowed his head and said, "Tan-too." 

It may have been a much shorter blessing than usual... but it was one of the sweetest ones I've ever heard.
