playing tourist in our own city

Collage

Does this conversation sound familiar?
"What do you want to do this weekend?"
"I don't know…."

This weekend, on a whim, we decided to go to see the Liberty Bell. Despite us living so close, we've never brought the kids there. And Ellie learned about the Liberty Bell in school, so she was super excited!

It was a gorgeous, sunny day and we took advantage! We went to the Visitors Center, saw the Liberty Bell, went on a carriage ride, then headed up to Franklin Square Park. There are people walking around in costume, storytellers, free movies. Then we had a super yummy lunch at Stephen Starr's new place, SquareBurger.  (If you are in the area – check it out. Fantastic!! ) We had a great morning, our kids thought it was so fun to be in the city and see something they learned about in school. Franklin Square Park alone is worth a trip.

GO! Go enjoy this amazing city and all it has to offer! We had so, so much fun. (Especially the carriage ride – did you know its only $30 for a carriage ride? Totally worth it!! The kids thought that was super awesome.)

Wherever you live – what is so nearby, so convienent that you don't even bother to go and see? Go play tourist!

I have to admit, that living in this city for 7 years now, there is still some really cool places I’ve yet to visit. Kinda embarrassed to admit that…

I keep saying I’m going to take one of those carriage rides on Christmas Eve, but I think I might just do it today if I can get out of work and pick up Jake and get back downtown in some sort of orderly fashion!
I’m glad you had a fun day downtown. It’s my favorite thing to do ever

I have never seen the Liberty Bell either and would love to do that. I’ll have to add it to the calendar for one Sunday to enjoy with hubby. Thanks for sharing! From the pictures it looks like you all had quite the day. It’s great to play tourist every once in awhile.

I think that I went to see the Liberty Bell once in elementary school and I have lived here my whole life. I’m even more embarrassed to admit that I used to work at 6th and Chestnut. I drove around down there last weekend when I was visiting my dad and was thinking that I need to take Brynnie to places like that – we haven’t even been to the zoo or the Please Touch Museum yet. Thanks for shaming me :)

Sounds like an awesome time! We frequent the Franklin Institute but haven’t done much else. We should…
