speaking of parenting advise

Well now I know where to go for parenting advise! Thanks, ya'll!

I decided to try the mixing formula bit by bit into breastmilk route and trying some serious pumping. Yesterday I got Colin to take 2 ounces of breastmilk in a bottle (Yay!) and today I'm going to try mixing in an ounce of formula to 2 ounces of milk. We'll see how that goes. We went to the pediatrician for his 6 months check up yesterday and she recommended I wait a bit before trying a cup. She also laughed and said it was very unlikely he would just take straight formula at this age, since he is much smarter than that now ;-) No fooling him! Especially when it comes to food!

Did I mention he weighs 20 pounds? At 6 months? That's like 90th percentile. CLEARLY this child takes eating very seriously.

I'm placing an Amazon order today. I need some good parenting books, seeing as I am in WAY over my head here. I'm buying this one, which was highly recommended by ladies in my Bible Study. Apparently it focuses not just on outward behavior, but on heart issues. That's what my kids struggle with. They'll generally obey, but their attitudes and stuff are MUCH to be desired…

And I'm thinking about this one:

What is your favorite parenting book? Any other recommendations?

I bought a book and have yet to read it but I have heard it’s good…
“How to Make Your Children Mind Without Losing Yours”
I must admit, I do love the title!
    Good luck…

Let me know what you think of the book. I have been on the look-out for a good parenting book but can’t make up my mind.
We too are in need of some “heart issue” training!

Let me know how you like the book you ordered. It sounds intersting!! One book I like a lot is “The Five Love Languages of children” by Gary Chapman (in fact I like the whole series!). It’s not necessarily a book about discipline, but does help with how to effectively connect with your children in ways they feel most loved & appreciated. So when they DO listen and do what they are suppossed to do, you can reward them in ways that make them feel most appreciated. It’s also about making them feel loved all the time, even when they are NOT listening.

Your cousin Eric weighed 21 lbs and was 27 1/2 inches at 6 months. See I told you Colin reminds of Eric.

no good book suggestions….but the cup thing, are you desperate for that? does he not like the bottle? cos i used a sippy cup with a straw with my nursing babies who wouldn’t bottle feed. course, maybe it’s not a problem at all….i’m in and out of the blogreading routine!
hope u find a book that helps :)

I LOVE “Don’t make me count to 3″ Which she actually talks about why not to do that. I love her section on why lecturing doesn’t work- that it is only helpful to the lecturer. She also has a flip chart to go with her book- talking about what scripture you can use to go with a behavior you are working on eliminating or encouraging. I also love her section on “when a sibling is sinning against a sibling” we use that in almost every situation and it has proven to be extremely helpful.
Someone finally shared this with me: If you are looking for a method to eliminate a behavior- you will only make yourself crazy. Find a method that addresses the behavior and addresses the heart- and you will have a more peaceful home.
I also love “Love and Logic” parenting. It helps me move away from micromanaging my kids.
Looking forward to checking out “Grace Based Parenting.”
