Here are 5 reasons I will be blowing that recommended weight gain out of the water with this pregnancy:
1. Due to morning sickness, I only want to eat things that I usually avoid. Like bread. And potatoes. And all those starchy-carby foods that aren’t good for you anymore according to Oprah, Bob Greene and other experts.
2. I now hate diet drinks. Hate them. I used to live for Cherry Coke Zero. Favorite drink EVER. But now, anything with fake sweeteners tastes awful to me. Crystal Light, Diet Coke, Splenda (sob!), even my beloved Cherry Coke Zero. While my Husband is thrilled, as he hates diet drinks and is always reminding me as I’m drinking that they are going to give me cancer, I miss those lovely caffeine-laden, calorie-free bubbles. I love drinks with bubbles. Sigh.
3. My biggest craving is fruit. Especially really sour apples. This may help me stay just shy of weighing more than my husband. However….
4. My other craving is Cheetos. Which will make my friends and family laugh. No, actually, it will make them fall off their chairs in hysterics. Why? Because I hate cheese. Hate it. Yet, somehow, Cheetos are just about my favorite food right now.
Woe be to the Husband who finishes off the pregnant woman’s Cheetos while watching soccer because he will be headed out to buy her more as soon as the game is over. If he lives that long.
5. And, finally, saving the best for last, some genius, who I would love to personally thank, invented these:

Coincidence that these were invented just as I got pregnant? I. Think. Not.

Ha ha, the pregnancy cravings are nuts hey? I’d eat whole bottles of green olives. I’ve craved the green apples too. Hey, for fizzy drinks just get some carbonated water and mix with some juice and voila!
Water weight is crazy hey? My first pregnancy I went from 155-200 pounds. My second pregnancy I went from 135-206 pounds AHHHHHHH
Well, Cheetos don’t have any actual cheese, do they? So it’s not that surprising!
I MUST get some of those M&M’s right now!
Like pluckymama, I too couldn’t get enough olives. And not even good olives, but the cheap pimento-stuffed ones. That was during the salty-craving period, which also included several tortilla chip binges. Then I swung around to sweet cravings and consumed far more chocolate than is healthy. For anyone.
It happens. Go with it, but make the occasional gesture towards portion-control. It will make you feel virtuous.
And the fizzy drink thing? Seltzer water by itself or mixed with juice. Tasty.
okay, i laughed out loud. cheetos. clearly, i’m going to love this kid.
Not going to lie- I did laugh when I read about you liking Cheetos. I’m very suprised that you have crossed over to the “dark side”.
Absolutely agree about the dark chocolate M&Ms, but not with Cheetos, with Chili Cheese Fritos.
How is is possible to hate cheese, I think I could probably live on nothing but cheese.
I think I have now gained a pound or two just thinking about all this stuff. I am not pregnant, I have no excuse.
That all looks about right to me. I used to eat Pizza Hut once a week when preggo. And Snickers bars. I’d buy them and eat the whole thing. I never buy a candy bar unless I’m pregnant. Enjoy it! It will be over soon enough. And you’re still a rail, anyway.
Did I mention that the other night I made Husband go get me a hot fudge sundae at 10pm? I left that out of the list….
You hate cheese? I love cheese with every fiber of my being. But, I choose to forgive you b/c you like fizzy drinks and dark chocolate. =)
I have no doubt you’re just about the cutest pregnant girl on the planet no matter how much you eat!
xo.
I used to drink half and half with chocolate syrup mixed in it while pregnant…and coulld not get enough egg nog. Fortunately I had winter babies so the milk fat slid right under all those huge comfy clothes.
By the way, do cheetos actually have ANY cheese in them or on them? I think that’s just styrofoam with orange polysorbate dust on them. Maybe you could check if it’s convenient.
i just had my 4th and can finally stomach a diet drink again… i totally gagged on diet drinks when pregnant.
blessings,
karla
cheetos and m & m’s….yum and yum!
Love the m&m’s and the cheetos as well! I craved mashed potatoes with gravy my first tri with my last pregnancy – hubby would go out all hours to get them for me from KFC. I craved tomatoes all the time, and Lucky Charms cereal. (But not together). Then it was peanut butter fudge shakes and the jalepeno poppers from Sonic. It’s amazing I didn’t gain 100 pounds. Thankfully, I just went over the recommended weight and gained 36 pounds. Good luck with not gaining more than you hope to!
