size 8 is not fat

Okay. I don’t normally explore my strange fascination with celebrity gossip on my blog. But I’ve been watching all the Golden Globe/Red Carpet recaps this past week and something is really bugging me:

Kate Winslet is not fat. Every time some C-List fashion commentator mentioned her, they said something like, “This is such a great dress for her body type.” or “I just love how she is so proud of her body and refuses to conform to the Hollywood standard.” Okay. First off, look at her. She’s totally gorgeous. Secondly, she is maybe a size 8. She is not some fat cow rolling down the red carpet in a muumuu. She is a gorgeous, healthy looking woman! (which is more than I can say for some celebrities, not to name names.) Ugh. And people wonder why half the junior high girls in the country are throwing up their lunches in the school bathrooms……

OH! I could not have said this better myself. AND I love everything about Kate Winslet including her attitude and her beauty inside and out. I think she’d be a blast to hang out with, too!!

I’ve never noticed anything of the sort – I’ve never heard anyone say that Kate Winslet is fat?!?! Really, she is a size eight?!?! Whoa…
I guess we have to remember that lean is healthy, and not-so-lean is lazy.

Those girls are disgustingly skinny, YUCK! I agree a size eight is a very healthy look!

It bothers me too. The only thing comforting is the real men in my life all agree that the runway models are undesirably thin. I don’t know a real man–not the ones running the fashion industry–who thinks the Kate Moss body is more attractive that the Kate Winslet figure. They all want something soft, not bones, to cuddle up with. That, at least, makes me feel better :) If the women of the country have no sense about this issue, at least the men I know do.

you don’t know me but I just had to respond to your blog. Women of today who are a healthy size 12 and 14 look in the mirror and wish they could be smaller. I am presently on weight watchers and have lost 16 pounds. I have gone from a size 14 to a 12 and at first I thought I looked really good. Now that I am used to seeing my new size I am starting the whole pattern over again. Gee, I look big today…….man I hope I haven’t gained my weight back (like thats gonna happen over night) I need to lose more! This is a psychological trap a lot of women get caught in. Kate’s size 8 in the expensive line of clothing she probably wears is probably the same as my size 12 off the rack at Zellers and my size 13 at Reitmans. Kate looks awesome and radiant and healthy. We size 12, 14, and yes even 16s look just as good. Thank you for posting your blog, I enjoyed this one.

I saw Keira Knightly shopping at Selfridges in London. At first I stared for shock that a blue-lipped ribbon of a woman could stand upright, then I realised it was Keira. She appeared to be at the brink of starvation and death, not the ‘sexy woman’ we are all told she is.
Around the same time I saw Sienna Miller and noted how her thighs were the size of my wrists. She seemed to be made of sinew and sunglasses.
And I’m size 2. We live in a disgusting world where the underweight look gigantic next to these people.

I’ve always heard that when people see celebrities in real life, they are always shocked at how teeny-tiny they are. I think I can see that – they are insanely thin. Especially when you look at what people looked like when they started out – like Jennifer Anisten in season one of Friends as opposed to season 8, 20 pounds lighter. And she’s a healthy-looking one!
And it annoys me that they make me feel fat! Ugh.

ironically enough, today keira knightly decided to sue a paper for saying she was anorexic. right.

I’m a size eight and 5’3″ All I hear all day long is how skinny I am! LOL. Maybe it’s my proportions, I have an hourglass figure 36-26-38 and small bones. But I wouldn’t say I’m thin and I definitely wouldn’t say I’m FAT by any stretch of the imagination. But Hollywood has a warped standard of Callista Flockhart’s and Victoria Beckam’s and Nicole Ritichie’s. Next to those tooth picks I probably look enormous.
I don’t mean to bag on gay’s, but does it pass anyone’s notice that gays run the fashion industry and the models are a little boyish looking? I mean, they’re like transvestites with their tiny bodies and fake boobs. It’s like a sick joke on women. I suppose we could all be stick thin if we starved. But at what cost? I’ll tell you: our womanhood. Unnaturally thin women don’t menstruate and they don’t have much for boobs, butt, or hips.

thank you so much for saying this!!!i hate how the media is obsessed with thin people. thank god for gorgeous, curvy, women, like Kate Winslet, Scarlett Johannsen, and America Ferrera! im 5’5 1/2″ and a size 10-12, and i am not fat! im healthy, ezcersice regularly, and eat well. ive learned to ignore ignorant size twos who call me fat, because im not. i have nothing against small sizes, infact, one of my best friends is asiz and naturally a size 0, and she eats like a horse!
thanks so much for raising awareness that women can have curves, and be healthy, sexy, and gorgous!
