Yesterday we went to visit my father and my step-mom for Christmas. They live about an hour away and I’m keeping up my life-long tradition of seeing him about 2 or 3 times a year. We’re not crazy about their house – Stepmom smokes (cough cough) and they have a scary dog (dobermann) and it is completely not child-proof (stress).
Now, one thing about my dad, he loves to give presents. And he’s given us some great ones over the past few years – our TV, our laptop. He’s given us some duds, but we don’t mind – he’ll come through eventually
(They do buy our kids the most obnoxious toys ever – everything must be electronic and make lots of noise and have absolutely no off-switch.) But this year they blew us away.
They gave us a beautiful piano that was handmade by my grandfather. He tracked one down (Grandpa made less than 40 in his lifetime), hauled it down from Connecticut in a rented trailer, had it tuned three or four times and he’s bringing driving it down to our house before Christmas. Actually, to say I was blown away is an understatement. What a gift. Not just cool – since I really wanted a piano – but really special. We have a true family heirloom now, something really special to hand down to our children and grandchildren.
I’ll post a picture as soon I its delivered!

WOW! That is so great Melissa. He made beautiful pianos. So glad that he was able to find one. Now, are you sure that you will still be happy that you have it when the girls start banging (I mean playing) on it.
That is very sweet, but it begs the question:
Does the piano have an off switch?
That is very cool! Can’t wait to see the pic.
